Book Review – Owning Your Own Life by Sally Clarkson
I am a little more than half way through this as I post and I am in love with this book! It is truly, life changing. So much so that I switched my weekly bible study teachings to focus on the lessons, Sally Clarkson, shares in Owning Your Life.
This book guides you to physically and spiritually transform your life and your relationship with God in simple steps that truly change you for the better. I can not recommend this book enough. As Sally shares her personal experiences, you can’t help but relate. Here is just the smallest taste of what we have covered so far.
The chaos consumed me and left me empty…
Many women live with deep weariness and an inability to experience any lasting joy.
~ Sally Clarkson
Sally Clarkson starts off by guiding us through a personal cleansing of sorts. She asks you to identify things such as the chaos in your life, the areas of your life you are neglecting, and the worldy values that are stealing your time and your money. She’s gentle as she guides you towards identifying and dealing with these areas and I can not tell you what a difference this made for myself and others in our bible study group. Several of us agreed to give up Facebook or Twitter or phone games and were stunned to realize how much time this freed up in our lives. Who knew? Many of us were neglecting our health and had developed lists miles long of excuses to explain our neglect. Many of us were trapped in relationships which brought constant chaos into our homes. Some of us were trying to get so much done in a day that every night was met with exhaustion. And on and on and on. Taking an honest look at what’s really going on in life will inspire you to change your life. I speak from personal experience.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23
As you move chapter after chapter through this book you begin to see God’s plan for you clearer than ever, and learn how to serve His purposes. You begin to see His hand in everything. You recognize you are exactly where He wants you to be. You learn to start your day with Him and include Him in everything and you see things start to change for the better and more beautiful. The weights fall away. The dark clouds part and light shines down all around you. There is such freedom in simple truths. There is such hope in owning your experience.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:14
Learn about the power of His word and how His guidance and direction in your life make all the difference.
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
Learn about the power of prayer and how over 500 verses in the bible are dedicated to prayer. He wants you to talk to Him. Praying is powerful.
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:16
Sally Clarkson points out that we are all a work in progress. When she says this, your heart tends to listen.
He crafted us to live fully as creative beings, agents of His own capacity: to rule, subdue, and express our own imprint on the world, filled with the life and scope of His Spirit, who lives within us. Through our new birth – from death to life – we become ambassadors, light bearers, lovers and architects of all things excellent. We become like Him in our ability to live purposefully, intentionally, and authoritively.
This is our history, and this is our inheritance. The very imprint of the fingertips of God rests mysteriously in the depths of our being.
And God pronounced that all that He had made was good; and even better, when He created man, he said it was VERY good. – Sally Clarkson : Owning Your Own Life
I don’t want to give away too much but let me just say that your relationship with God, your relationships with family and friends and your day to day life will be drastically and permanently improved by this read. I am so glad to have discovered it.
