Quote of the Week – Audrey Hepburn

Quote of the Week by Audrey Hepburn

Every week we choose a quote to focus on and this week it is from Audrey Hepburn

“The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.” – Audrey Hepburn

Summer is here and it has blessed us with even more opportunities to spend time with family and friends. It is these moments that form the memories we cherish and hold on to as we grow. I want T to enjoy his family and to be surrounded by their love so we keep our family very close. This quote by Audrey Hepburn emphasizes the importance of the people on our path. It encourages gratitude for those relationships. It reminds us that it is not the things but the rather the souls that surround us who truly matter. They are the ones who ground us and lift us up all at once. They are ones who love us at our best and at our worse. In so many ways, they shape us and guide us and also reflect us.

The world with all of its media and marketing puts so much emphasis on things. Material things, immoral things, and temporary things. It would lead us to believe we are one video game away from cool. One outfit away from beautiful. One trip away from peace. It would lie to us. T is growing up in this world. I recognize the lies it screams at him from every corner of this lovely world. It is my goal to be the quiet and gentle voice that speaks the truth. It is and never was things that make us cool or beautiful or fill us with peace. It is God, it is gratitude, it is love, and it is the people we share our journey with. I want him to walk through this world with eyes wide open so he can see the love, joy, and grace that surround him as the real parts of life and all the rest for what it really is. Illusions and lies meant to lead him in the wrong direction towards the material things. What matters is found within, in the heart and it will never have a price tag attached.

My hope for T, is that he holds the truth close and uses it as a shield against the lies and also as a looking glass to see straight through the illusions. While I want T to find mad success in his future career and to know financial stability, it is even more important to his happiness that he live a life of purpose, that he treasure his relationships, that he lets his faith illuminate his path, and that his gratitude is sincere because those are the things that will give him peace. Those are things that matter.
