How To Make The Perfect Christmas Eve Gift For Your Family!
The Christmas Eve Gift Is A Tradition Worth Starting!
Every year the Christmas pajamas get a little bigger. Over the last twelve years, they have gotten a lot bigger. This is a tradition that has always been big in our household. There is so much magic and anticipation on Christmas Eve. All the waiting has come down to this. One final night together in front the tree surrounded by gifts, dreaming about what lies within those packages. We can’t wait to see the expressions on each other’s faces when they open the ones from us.
We visit family and actually have two big Christmas celebrations on Christmas Eve so it’s usually late when we come home. After all the excitement it’s time to experience the calm. The peace. It’s time for Christmas Eve boxes (Bags this year). Then we talk about what is to come in the morning. We offer a few last tantalizing clues about gifts and finally, it’s time to slip into those pajamas and sip hot chocolate together in front of a movie. At last, our own family Christmas has begun.
What I put in the boxes has changed over the years as T has grown. For many, many years I included a book. Now that he is older, we generally read one from our collection. I’m sharing this years’ Christmas boxes, but I want to include a tip. We have tons of Christmas books but out of all of them, this is my favorite. I highly recommend it.
I always include a new set of pajamas. There is nothing better than a super soft pair of pj’s. Also, it’s nice to have everyone matching in the Christmas morning photographs. This year I also got T a new bathrobe because, surprise, he outgrew his this year. I also got Mr. Wonderful a pair of slippers. You may also include Christmas themed socks.
I included a Christmas mug this year, T and I like cocoa so I put a packet of cocoa in those and I got Mr. Wonderful a packet of apple cider. In the cocoa cups, I added oh so adorable candy cane spoons. You can find them on Amazon or at Big Lots or Wal-Mart. I also have included things like snowflake shaped marshmallows. Whatever you find that is fun!
Sometimes I include packages of popcorn or a Christmas themed cookie from the bakery. This year I chose popcorn with red and green m&m’s to mix in while it was hot. You could also include fruit or any treat your family adores. In the past I have included our favorite candy or even donuts. Dunkin’ Donuts makes very cute Christmas donuts. Whatever your little people love best, include it. After all, this only happens once a year.
I also include a scripture for each of us to read aloud. This year I chose these.
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17
Christmas Eve gifts are simple to make and so worth the experience. In the past, I have also included board games, or card games or other small toys. I have included Christmas Cds or DVDs of favorite Christmas movies. Whatever you think they would love most and will add to your Christmas Eve experience together, throw it in there. Have a blast! This is your Christmas Eve. Savor every last second of it.
