Family friendly events in the Tri-Cities and slightly beyond for the month of October 2016

September was amazing!  Rocky Mount Homeschool Days and Biltmore Homeschool Days really made for a month of outstanding hands-on learning that we will remember many years from now! We had a great time. Now, looking forward into October we are truly excited to experience more of the family fun the Tri-Cities has to offer.

Fender’s Farm

All month long! Monday thru Thursday 4-9 ~ Friday 4-10  ~ Saturday 10-10 ~ Sunday 1-6

We love Fender’s Farm! They offer a corn maze, a zip line, a bungee jump, an apple launcher, a pumpkin patch, an animal barn and even Redneck Zombie Paintball! There is so much more too. Click here to see all of their activities!


Homeschool Nerf Wars

October 4th, 2016 ~ 4:30 – 6:30pm at Elizabethton Parks and Rec Athletics

In celebration of Child Health Week, Homeschool Nerf Wars is aiming to get your kids moving! Bring your own Nerf Guns (bullets are provided). This is going to be fun!


39th annual Unicoi County Apple Festival

October 7th, 2016 ~ 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

We love the Apple Festival and we go almost every year! We go for the apples! There is nothing better this time of year then the apples freshly picked from local orchards. But there is so much more! Family friendly fun abounds, crafts and food vendors are present in abundance! Learn more here.


Autumn Harvest Festival at Roan Mountain

October 8th, 2016 ~ 12 pm to 4pm

Head out the Miller Farmstead and enjoy all the best fall has to offer! It’s a worth a trip just to see the beauty of Roan Mountain in full Fall color! But there will also be traditional crafts, food, and entertainment on the schedule. Learn more here.


Camp Placid’s 2016 Fall Festival – Blountville

October 15th, 2016 ~ 10am to 5 pm

Camp Placid offers 20 acres of gorgeous Fall foliage!  Check out their Fall Festival and enjoy a chili cook-off, fishing, a cornhole tournament, arts, crafts, vendors and more. Learn more here.


Fall Family Fun Day – Doe River Gorge

October 16th, 2016 ~ 10am to 5pm

Lots and lots of family fun are waiting for your family at Doe River Gorge! This year you can also enjoy a train ride (tickets are available now). Disc golf, horseback riding, volleyball, and cornhole are on the schedule!  For an additional cost, you can also enjoy the climbing tower, tree climb and 4 x 4’s. 15th Annual Celtic Festival at Sycamore Shoals

October 21st thru the 23rd, 2016

Opening with a torch light ceremony Friday night, this will make for a weekend full of fun! Celebrate Appalachia’s Celtic Heritage with food, vendors, reenactments, demonstrations and more.  Learn more here.


Jack-O-Lantern Contest at David Crockett State Park

October 22nd, 2016 ~ 1 pm

This contest is bound to get all of us excited about Halloween! Bring your Jack-O-Lantern to the museum at 1pm along with a battery operated light source and winners will be revealed on the 23rd. Find more details here.


Spirit of the Harvest – Rocky Mount

October 29th, 2016 ~ 11 am – 5pm

We had such a great time at Rocky Mount Homeschool Days!  This historic site is amazing and time there is time well spent. Visit the Cobb family and see how they prepare for Harvest. Storytelling, hearthside cooking, crafts, and music are all part of this event. And did I mention Apple Butter and Apple Cider….  For more details click here.


Stories From The Pumpkin Patch at Tipton-Haynes

October 29th, 2016 ~ 4 to 8 pm

This family-friendly event will be so much fun! There will be hot dog roasting, warm cider fireside, hay rides, tours of the house and a spooky cave. To learn more click here.
