Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk Review

Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk Book Review

I have a new favorite book and author!

So this is what happened, the internet went down at midnight and I had just finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But I wasn’t tired. I had picked up a book called Wolf Hollow at the Barnes and Noble book event on Friday. I thought I may just read a chapter, just to see…. But oh my goodness! Let’s just say I relished the last page at 5:30 this morning. Yup, I literally couldn’t put it down. It was just so beautiful.

This book is so good that it is hard for me to tell you. I need hand gestures and facial expressions for you to understand how much I loved Wolf Hollow. I read a lot and out of everything I have read this year, Wolf Hollow is the greatest by a long shot.

The story is amazing but it’s the way this story is told that makes it so touching! Lauren Wolk is not just a gifted writer who writes a story your imagination will adore but also tells a tale that moves your heart and talks to your soul. It’s absolutely lovely.

You probably wonder what it’s about so let me share this.

ldquo; This exquisite debut confronts injustice and doesn’t flinch.” -People “[A] powerful debut . . . beautifully written.” -The Wall Street Journal…

Growing up in the shadows cast by two world wars, Annabelle has lived a mostly quiet, steady life in her small Pennsylvania town. Until the day new student Betty Glengarry walks into her class. Betty quickly reveals herself to be cruel and manipulative, and while her bullying seems isolated at first, things quickly escalate, and reclusive World War I veteran Toby becomes a target of her attacks. While others have always seen Toby’s strangeness, Annabelle knows only kindness. She will soon need to find the courage to stand as a lone voice of justice as tensions mount. – Penguin Random House

WHO: Annabelle

WHAT: A girl arrives in Annabelle’s hometown and proves to be not only a terrible bully but something much darker. A scarred veteran turned loner is accused of terrible things and Annabelle can’t step aside and watch her friend take the fall.

I stand not alone in my awe, readers!  Check out these reviews!

“Wrenching and true. . . . comparisons to Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird will abound. But Wolk gives us her own story—one full of grace and stark, brutal beauty.” —The New York Times Book Review

See? Truly, you need this! I don’t want to give away too much, and I am likely to do it considering I had a mere three hours sleep last night (totally worth it!) So I am going to close this post and you are going to write down the names Wolf Hollow and Lauren Wolk for your next trip to the bookstore because this is one you will want to keep. It deserves a place on your bookshelf, right up there with Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and The Black Stallion.

If you want a more in-depth review which is quite revealing you can read The New York Times Book Review in its entirety here.

People feel at home in Belle Haven, and in many ways it is like any other small town, with a café where regulars come for the fresh cinnamon rolls and to talk about the weather, or one another, often…
