Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt Born

Born, today’s writing prompt is born. What sort of reaction does your heart have to that word? Today, for Five Minute Friday, I am going to let my own heart speak and I encourage you to do the same.

What is Five Minute Friday,’ you ask? Simply five minutes out of the week where you let one single word flow freely from you. You don’t pause it to clean it up, you just let it be exactly as it is released. For five full minutes. And these five minutes offer a special kind of freedom.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

1 Peter 2:9

Starting my timer…

Born

The seed emerging from the dirt,

the darkness that has stained it – clinging.

But reaching for the light,

while waiting for the rain,

to wash it clean,

as it reaches,

it’s only hope to emerge,

to live,

to truly be born into the world,

His light.

As it is with faith found.

But first the shadowy existence in the gloom,

The soul cringing at the sight of light,

afraid of all that it reveals within,

without it ,

about it.

Cowering in its darkness,

angry,

disgusted that it lurks here,

hiding from itself.

But still eager,

aching to reach,

to search for something better.

Brighter days and lighter ways,

where it can see sunshine,

and wear bright colors,

and sway in the daylight,

along with the wind,

that is actually His spirit within.

Because it has been called,

to be born,

out of the darkness,

into His marvelous light.

To reach for the Heavens,

and the truth that is all that there is,

that is all that is actually real.

Discovering that birth offered more

then just emergence,

It led the willing,

toward the summer of their life,

where everything became more alive,

where fruits were ripe,

whether of tree or of spirit.

Where the darkness was left behind them.

Forgiven and forgotten,

And the sunrise offered a new day,

every day.

Because He loved them,

and He called them,

Out of darkness,

into His marvelous light.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1:12-13

  1. I have a few seeds “reaching for the sun” in my backyard. I can’t take credit for them; my mother in law planted them though I have been watering them. And I guess that’s how it goes: sometimes others help us become who God has designed us to be.

  2. Gwen, this is really beautiful…though musing on ‘light’ brought something else to mind

Never really liked the Taliban; the more I got to know them, the less appreciative I was of their good points.

Thus, my ode to the GBU-43/B, designed to be dropped off the ramp of a C-130, and pretty much level a part of the world.

Oh, yes, I really love it,
    with all its bright aplomb;
from the ramp they shove it,
    the Mother Of All Bombs.
It’s like a newly risen sun
    when it does its stuff,
and I can pack up the gun,
    ’cause enough’s enough.
Kind of hate to see it used
    on those living folk
    who were, perhaps, badly confused,
but needs must break the yolk
’cause it was them to plant the seed,
killin’ girls who learned to read.
