Meet The Characters of Camino Island

  • Mercer: An author with one really great book published finds herself sinking in debt, working a job she only tolerates, and creatively suffocating. Her second book is currently three years past due. And then she is approached with the strangest and best paying job offer possible. Mercer becomes a spy. But she is really a terrible liar. Can she pull it off?
  • Bruce Cable: The eccentric owner of a ridiculously popular book store located on Camino Island. Word has it he dapples in the rare book trade. But how rare?
  • Denny: Ex-military. The leader of a gang of thieves. The mastermind behind the theft of the F.  Scott Fitzgerald manuscripts. He will do anything to walk away from this rich and free. Anything.

What I Liked About Camino Island

I love a book that keeps me up and this one did. From the very beginning, I was hooked and I had to see it through to the end. To me, this is the ultimate mark of a great read. It has to be hard to part with. I thought the story was well paced and exciting. The landscape on Camino Island was completely enchanting, and the atmosphere created by the book world characters was fun.

From the Book Jacket of Camino Island

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A delightfully lighthearted caper . . . [a] fast-moving, entertaining tale.”—Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a vault deep below Princeton University’s Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, impossible to resist.

Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in unsavory ventures.

Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer’s block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous monetary offer convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Cable’s circle of literary friends, to get close to the ringleader, to discover his secrets.

But soon Mercer learns far too much, and there’s trouble in paradise—as only John Grisham can deliver it.
