Christmas Book Review – Merry and Bright
Merry and Bright By Debbie Macomber
If you are looking for a great Christmas book to read, then Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber might be just the read you are after.
This sweet story takes you into the life of Merry Knight. She is working a temp job in order to pay for her last year of college. With all the mandatory overtime and family responsibilities, she has no time for romance. Instead, she cares for her ailing mother and her precious brother, Patrick while her father works often on the road and far from home. Until her family teams up to make her a profile on an online dating site. And then, everything changes.
Soon, we meet Jayson Bright. A hard-working man from the other side of the tracks. Jayson grew up in a super wealthy family where all the luxuries of life were available in abundance, but the things that really matter, such as love and time spent with family were severely lacking. He has grown into a man that comes off as arrogant and strict.
They make the most unlikely pair.

I loved this book. The main character’s love for her family is beautiful. Her brother who is “special” gives the story the sweetest touches. Christmas is displayed in its truest sense as the Knight family reach out to friends and neighbors in all the ways that matter most. The unlikely love story that emerges tells not only the story of a young couple falling in love but highlights all the many ways that love awakens us to the beauty in life.
Merry and Bright – What The Book Cover Says
Merry Knight is pretty busy these days. She’s taking care of her family, baking cookies, decorating for the holidays, and hoping to stay out of the crosshairs of her stressed and by-the-book boss at the consulting firm where she temps. Her own social life is the last thing she has in mind, much less a man. Without her knowledge, Merry’s well-meaning mom and brother create an online dating profile for her—minus her photo—and the matches start rolling in. Initially, Merry is incredulous, but she reluctantly decides to give it a whirl.
Soon Merry finds herself chatting with a charming stranger, a man with similar interests and an unmistakably kind soul. Their online exchanges become the brightest part of her day. But meeting face-to-face is altogether different, and her special friend is the last person Merry expects—or desires. Still, sometimes hearts can see what our eyes cannot. In this satisfying seasonal tale, unanticipated love is only a click away.
