Christmas Movies are kind of my thing. I confess to watching them all year long. Over the years I have become a bit of an expert on Christmas Movies, and I feel that all of that time and effort put into really exploring the topic should result in something grand. Something worth sharing with the world. And so here it is, My Great Big List of Christmas Movies Worth Watching! You are very welcome!

This collection includes all of my very favorite Christmas movies. Don’t think because they are behind our times that they aren’t worth your time. These are Christmas story gems!

It's A Wonderful Life
It’s A Wonderful Life

It’s A Wonderful Life is the movie I always save for the week of Christmas. It is my very favorite Christmas movie ever.  It is a 1946 American Christmas fantasy drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra, based on the short story and booklet The Greatest Gift, which Philip Van Doren Stern wrote in 1939 and published privately in 1943. The film is one of the most beloved in American cinema and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season.

Miracle On 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is a 1947 American Christmas comedy-drama film written and directed by George Seaton and based on a story by Valentine Davies. It stars Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood, and Edmund Gwenn. The story takes place between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day in New York City and focuses on the effect of a department store Santa Claus who claims to be the real Santa. The film has become a perennial Christmas favorite.

Home Alone is a 1990 American comedy film written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. The story follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. Kevin initially relishes being home alone, but he soon has to contend with two burglars.

There are so many great versions of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. On the outskirts of Whoville, there lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch, who plans on ruining Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.

Prancer Christmas movie

Refusing to give up her belief in Santa Claus, a child, Jessica Riggs, discovers a hurt reindeer in the woods, which she believes to be Prancer. With the help of a sympathetic veterinarian), Jessica takes care of the wounded creature. It’s supposed to be a secret, but eventually, a store Santa Claus, the girl’s dad, and the entire town find out about Prancer, leading to big problems for Jessica and her family.

A Christmas Story is a beloved holiday movie that follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker, who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder air rifle.” Frequently at odds with his cranky dad but comforted by his doting mother, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.


Gremlins is a Christmas movie about a gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the `mogwai’ but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen, and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. His hick cousin, Eddie, and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark’s employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs.
