Key To My Heart Shadowbox Project
Easy To Make Valentine’s Day Gift Wall Art
For Valentine’s Day this year I wanted to come up with a Homeschool Art Project that T would actually enjoy. He’s not into hearts and lace and being in the eighth grade he doesn’t want to make actual Valentine’s cards. I don’t blame him a bit. No problem! But about an Art Project for Valentine’s Day…

As always, I tried to think about what he does like. And he does like antiques. And I just happened to have a collection of antique keys that were just laying around in a shoebox. When I asked him he said he would like to make something he could give as a gift. So, I decided he could make this cool Key To My Heart Shadow Box. It’s a perfect Valentine’s Day project!
Here is what you need to make the Key To My Heart Shadowbox:
- 1 Piece of Cardstock
- The Printable Quote
- A Shadowbox – We used an 8 x 8 that we found at Walmart for under $10
- An Antique Key
- Glue Gun
How to Make Your Shadowbox Key Craft
I looked around for a good quote that would look great and go with the theme. Once I found this quote I knew I had it. I designed a quick print which you can have by clicking here. And then I printed it out on 100-pound cardstock.
After it was printed Tdid all the measurements to make sure it would fit centered in our 8 x 8 box.
After he made his measurements he carefully cut it down to size.
He then glued it to the backing. We placed a piece of wax paper and a Science book on top of it and let it dry. This helps keep it from peeling up on the edges.
Then he made the measurements for his ribbons and cut those out. He then used the hot glue gun to secure them to his Shadowbox Key Craft.
Finally, he glued on his antique key and let it cool for a minute before putting it inside the frame.
It came out beautifully and the best part is that he is giving it to me for Valentine’s Day! I couldn’t love it more! We hung it up right next to the front door.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
