Out and About Tri-Cities – July 2018
Family Friendly Events In the Tri-Cities and Just Beyond
If you are looking for family-friendly events in the Tri-Cities, you have come to the right place. Our mission at Geez, Gwen is to encourage families and couples to get out and explore and learn together as often as possible. We also strive to be a source of information for excellent volunteer opportunities that you can take part in to improve our community and the lives and well being of our neighbors. Welcome!
First, a quick re-cap of June!
June was exciting, to say the least! The appearance of two Black Rat Snakes climbing my chimney was not the way I had hoped to get started. Black Rat Snakes are all over this area and if you have had an encounter you probably understand that the fact they are non-venomous isn’t exactly the relief it should be. You can read about how I handled this situation, what I learned from the snakes, and how you can prevent them from climbing your very own chimney or entering your own home here.
That was exciting but when I think about the highlights of our month I believe our hike up Roan Mountain takes the number one spot.

Experience the 4th of July, 18th century-style! What did colonists think about a new nation? Be a guest in Fort Watauga as news of Independence arrives at the colonial frontier. Walk among historical characters and hear their varied reactions to the Declaration, from fear of war to the hope of a brighter future. Step back in time to a colorful revolutionary world and witness life as it was on the 18th-century frontier during a very tumultuous time. In the summer of 1776 colonial leaders met in Philadelphia to draft a document that would forever change the world.
