Scripture For When You Are Scared
Faith Over Fear Verses
Scripture for when you are scared. We all face fear from time to time. A weird ailment in our body, a child growing up and leaving home, insecurities, regrets, aging… On and on and I didn’t even touch on phobias. Snakes, spiders, heights, the dark… As a Christian, I am constantly leaning on my faith to be greater than my fear.
I have this collection of scriptures that I stand on. I claim them. I proclaim, “It is written…” There is so much power in these verses. So much truth. So much comfort. So much peace. So I am sharing the ones I have memorized for those moments when fear threatens to steal my joy so that you too can have within easy reach scriptures for when you are scared.

Top Ten Scriptures For When You Are Scared
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
– Joshua 1:9

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
– 2 Timothy 1:7

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” –
Romans 8:28

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
– Psalm 46:1

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 46:1

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
– Psalm 56:3

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:6-7

“I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

At church recently our pastor, Matt Murphy said something that really hit home with me. He said, “What we need most when we are hurting is not answers, it’s Gods’ presence.” And I couldn’t agree more. When we are hurting we need Him most of all. Claim these promises. Call them out. There are strength and peace both to be found in His word.
