Educational Resources For An Amazing Space Unit Study

I’ve just created an amazing Space Unit Study for our homeschool. I am fascinated with the universe. Oh, the wonders of space… When I was a little girl I used to love to take a blanket outside and lay on the grass looking up at the night sky. The beauty of it. The size of it. The mystery of it. All intrigued me. We should have guessed back then that one day I would grow up to be a Space Geek.

My love of the solar system has impacted what I read and what I watch my entire life. I don’t believe I’ve missed a single space movie since my very first theater movie, ET. I have Journey to the Center of the Universe on DVD. And at this very moment, a hand-painted Solar System mobile hangs in my classroom while the National Geographic Society’s large coffee table book called Orbit is on display in my living room. The pages are dog-eared. I’m just am so intrigued with the universe. And I wanted to share that with my son.

So, we frequent the planetarium and visit the local college when they host open astronomy events. We have also done a ton of the STEM projects that JPL offers through their online lesson plans. And, we have attended many of their live webinars. T and I haven’t missed a single launch or landing. We make popcorn and watch all the pre-flight and pre-landing commentary. T wrote an incredible essay in an attempt to be the one to name the Mars Rover Perseverance. And we have sent our names to Mars twice and we have the boarding passes to prove it. Studying Space has been a big part of our homeschool journey.

Along the way, we have gathered some really valuable resources and I want to share those with you today so that you can share them with your kids too.
